Sheilah’s Therapeutic Approach

Sheilah conducts therapy from a Narrative & Solution-Focused paradigm.

Narrative Therapy

Narrative Therapy is a collaborative and non-pathologizing approach to counseling and community work which centres people as the experts of their own lives. A narrative approach views problems as separate from people and assumes people as having many skills, abilities, values, commitments, beliefs and competencies that will assist them to change their relationship with the problems influencing their lives. It is a way of working that considers the broader context of people's lives particularly in the various dimensions of diversity including class, race, gender, sexual orientation and ability. Solution-Focused Brief Therapy

Solution-Focused Therapy aims to help people experiencing difficulty find tools they can use immediately to manage symptoms and cope with challenges, is grounded in the belief that although individuals may already have the skills to create change in their lives, they often need help identifying and developing those skills. Similarly, SFBT recognizes that people already know, on some level, what change is needed in their lives, and SFBT practitioners work to help the people in their care clarify their goals. (Source)
